Farmhouse Friday

Welcome to this weeks Farmhouse Friday at The White Barn Farm. Many of you came by and saw us at the Rustique Divas Vintage Market. Thank you for coming! It was such a fun day. Of course I had to sneak away for a moment to explore the other vendors while there. A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do, right?! So for today’s Farmhouse Friday I am featuring this colorful quilt that I SCORED. I love all the sweet patterns and bright spring colors. I’ve found that a vintage quilt can make for a simple way to bring color and texture to a neutral space. Aaand, we all know how I love neutrals. Wink. So a splash of color is a great way for me to ‘branch-out’ and enjoy it for a (short, ha!) season. I have quite the collection of quilts around our home as they make fantastic forts, boats, ice-rinks, cars, restaurants,…okay let’s just cover our basis and say basically anything the kids can imagine. Oh yes, and they keep you warm on a cool day/night. Or let’s not forget how wonderful a quilt is to lay out while on a picnic. And how about snuggling up with one of these while sitting by the campfire eating a s’more. Yes please, I’ll take ten of them. No not the s’mores… the quilts! Hmmm, wait, I think I may have that many. Check your local thrift shops, antique stores, or vintage markets to snag a quilt of your liking too. I hope you’ll find as many reasons to love them as much as I. Thanks for coming by the blog today, dear friends.  I hope you have a fantastic weekend. Come on sunshine show us your pretty face. Can I get an Amen?!

PS. We’ll keep you posted on our “Gather” page of future events we will be at. So be sure to stay tuned.

Vintage Inspired Paper Lamp

I hope you’re having a good week thus far. Today I will answer a question I received from several of you about the lamp in our master bedroom. I love when I get asked something from you, because then I have an idea of what you like to see! So never hesitate to leave a comment or question. I love hearing from you.

Today is the day we taking a closer look at the vintage paper lamp many of you liked seeing on Instagram. If you decide to style a shade similarly please share it with me! You can email via our blog “Sharing at the Farm Table” tab or tag me on IG @thewhitebarnfarm. I’d love to see your creations!  Here is our lamp and a few ideas of what you can do to create one similarly…

To DIY; simply gather some vintage books and carefully remove pages. Or find some poetry, pictures, or newspapers online and print to desired size. You can use a tea-bag bath to give the appearance of time-worn pages. You’ll also need to purchase a lamp base and a wire shade (no fabric attached), as well as some small clips to attach as shown above. Mine are a vintage cream color, but you could get any color desired for your design preference. That’s it! You can do it!

Simple and lovely.

The lamp gives off a really nice soft glow. We also have our headboard barn fixtures for additional light as needed when reading at night. I love to have the lamp and chandelier on a dimmer switch for a warm welcome into our room each evening.

Thanks for coming by The White Barn Farm, I hope you gained some new ideas to make your next DIY project come to life! Bless your home as you keep aspiring to flourish in the heart and home.

Farmhouse Friday

img_9374Thanks for swinging in for our Farmhouse Friday today! This has been a week of sharing on the blog and my Instagram account (follow @thewhitebarnfarm) about our cozy, wintery bedroom. So I thought I’d talk a little more about how I love having a tray set on the end of our bed for decorations each season..or each week sometimes! It gives me just enough of a ‘change’ to make it fun and interesting! Does anyone else like to switch around decor like me as to give a room a ‘new’ look? I simply walk through my house and garage storage shelf and then gather a new item to use. It truly is the best way to ‘shop’ while saving money! If I ever have a guest room in my home, I dream of having a tray filled with specialty items for a warm welcome. Let me know what items you like to fill your end-of-the-bed-trays with. As always, I’d love to hear from you and gain more inspiration. Enjoy your weekend!

“Rooms in the Inn” Home Tour- Master Bedroom/Bath

Welcome into a glimpse of our home!  This week I will be giving you a tour of our bedrooms all decorated for Christmas in a series called-“Rooms in the Inn”. I’ll give you a look at some of our farmhouse features in our bedrooms in hopes to inspire you to keep creating beauty and rest within your own homes, as always.

Let’s start off our “Rooms in the Inn” Home Tour with a look at our master bedroom…

Of course if you put a massive FARMHOUSE sign anywhere it will shout out, “Hi I’m a farmhouse and I like being a farmhouse here.”  So you can never go wrong with adding that word to your home on a sign or pillow cover if you share a love for the same combination of letters as I.  Also, adding any rustic barn wood accents is another great way to bring a cozy homestead feel.  As you can see we have the barn wood feature with our headboard.  Some others options for you are a rustic wood framed mirror, artwork, or picture frames.

Our matching nightstands are painted in SW Alabaster.  I kept the original hardware on them to add fresh vintage symmetry to our room.

A frosted green wreath with silver balls and a glittery reindeer bring a cheerful presence to our room with its simple, yet completely Christmas farmhouse appeal.

Classic white linen curtains casually hang on a black rod. The rod rest on rustic hooks mounted on our matching barn wood.  I like them much better than your standard wall mount hooks, how about you?

And now for our Master Bath…

We went with a simple timeless look by having white subway tile throughout, tobacco stained cabinets, and chrome finishes.

*Our knobs are from Restoration Hardware

*’Everyday I love you’ sign is from Hobby Lobby

*Fixtures above sinks are Pottery Barn

*Fixture above tub is Joss and Main

*Wall color is SW Agreeable Gray

That wraps up my “Rooms in the Inn”Home Tour-Master Bedroom/Bath.  I’ll have the kids’ room next so be sure to check back in soon!

Bless your home
